Azya Lashelle was born and raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In 2015 she moved to East Lansing, Michigan to receive her BFA from Michigan State University, with a concentration in painting. She now resides in Atlanta, Georgia, and is pursuing her Masters in photography at Georgia State University. With the use of writing and mixed media, she creates conceptual work that explores the hardships of being Black in Amerika. Through personal experiences and historical events, Lashelle experiments heavily with color, specifically the color blue, to tell stories about the human experience.
